TEACHING PRESBYTER
PURPOSE: To advance the goals and mission
directions of the Presbytery. ACCOUNTABILITY: To the
Presbytery through its Presbytery Council
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as HEAD OF STAFF.
Serve as COMMUNICATOR:
- to and from the churches and the Presbytery, as well as
being a point of contact for the Synod and the General Assembly;
- maintain regular contact with congregations and clergy
through worship attendance and preaching, and through effective
utilization of print, electronic, and visual media.
Serve as PASTOR and MENTOR:
- to clergy and their families, including retired clergy and
their widowed spouses;
- to the congregations of the Presbytery, especially in times
of vacancy;
- to the staff of the Presbytery.
Serve as TEACHER and NETWORKER:
- connecting congregations, clergy, and lay leaders with
resources and opportunities available to them;
- regularly providing one-on-one or group learning
experiences, appropriately focused to address the
transformation/redevelopment needs of particular congregations
or groups of congregations;
- participating regularly in adult education programs of
congregations.
Serve as VISIONARY LEADER:
- with Presbytery Council, the Presbytery as a whole, and the
Committee on Ministry of the Presbytery;
- continually holding before the Presbytery its stated mission
priorities, while also encouraging a posture of listening for
the leading of the Holy Spirit;
- maintaining an awareness of trends and changes affecting the
life of the Presbytery, its congregations, clergy, and lay
leaders.
Serve as CONNECTIONAL PARTNER and ECUMENICAL LIAISON.
It is anticipated that the person filling this
position will be out of the office, working in the churches and with
clergy and !ay leaders of the Presbytery, at least fifty percent of
the time.
PERSONAL QUALITIES: Sensitivity to others, a
deep spiritual center, the ability to clearly express him or
herself with the oral and written word; creativity; and passion
for the church of Jesus Christ.
SKILLS: Good listening and interpersonal
skills; a talent for dreaming, planning, and evaluation;
demonstrated organizational skills for handling complex tasks;
working knowledge of resources and persons, and especially
congregational redevelopment, leadership, and family systems
theories.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minister of Word and Sacrament or an Elder.
- Member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) within the bounds
of Lehigh Presbytery.
- Working knowledge of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and its
polity.
- Exceptional ability to work with diverse people.
- Up-to-date, sophisticated technological skills
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to delegate responsibilities to appropriate persons.
- Ability to relate, with a positive attitude, to a variety of
persons.
- Ability to maintain confidential material and information.
COMPENSATION
1. JOB REVIEW: Annual review of performance
and salary.
2. MATERNITY/PATERNITY LEAVE: Consistent with Presbytery
Policy dated April 1999.
3. MEDICAL, PENSION, DISABILITY and SICK
LEAVE:
Coverage under the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Benefits Plan.
4. VACATION: Four weeks.
5. STUDY LEAVE:
Two weeks per year, may
be accumulated to six weeks with
agreement of Presbytery

STATED CLERK/ ASSOCIATE FOR
ADMINISTRATION
PURPOSE: To
fulfill the Book of Order mandate for Stated Clerk and to advance
the goals and mission of the Presbytery through effective
administration.
ACCOUNTABILITY: To the Presbytery (Stated
Clerk) and to Presbytery Council (Associate for Administration).
STATED CLERK
The Stated Clerk is the Ecclesiastical Officer
of the Presbytery. The Stated Clerk will record the transactions
of the Presbytery, keep its rolls of membership and attendance,
preserve its records carefully, and furnish extracts from them
when required by another governing body of the church. Such
extracts, verified by the Clerk, shall be evidence in any
governing body of the church. (G-9.0203a)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as REPORTER AND RECORDER
- Maintain the minutes and records of Presbytery and
Presbytery Council.
- Prepare the Presbytery Docket with Presbytery Council's
authorization.
- Prepare Presbytery Council Docket.
- Serve as Parliamentarian for Presbytery and Presbytery
Council.
- Determine annually the imbalance between Elder Commissioners
and Ministers of Word and Sacrament, and propose a method of
equalization.
- Prepare Annual General Assembly Statistical Report.
- Maintain the Roll of Presbytery, the Roll of Ministers of
Word and Sacrament, and corresponding files in the office.
Serve as COMMUNICATOR
- Communicate actions of Presbytery and Presbytery Council to
appropriate persons or entities.
- Process calls, contracts, dissolutions, and transfers of
Ministers of Word and Sacrament.
- Correspond with other governing bodies as necessary.
- Arrange for Presbytery meeting locations.
- Publish actions of the Presbytery, its Boards, Committees
and Commissions as required by the Form of Government and the
Book of Discipline.
Serve as RESOURCE AND SUPPORT PERSON
- Provide support to the Presbytery, Presbytery Council and
the Teaching Presbyter
- Guide the work of the Permanent Judicial Commission
- Provide support to Clerks of Session, Moderators, Ministers
of Word and Sacrament and Committee Chairs.
Work with the Synod Committee on Presbytery Records.
ASSOCIATE FOR
ADMINISTRATION
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR
- Supervise the day to day work of the Presbytery office staff.
- Oversee the office work load.
Serve as RESOURCE TO COMMITTEES, TASK GROUPS, AND CARE
TEAMS
- Provide administrative and technical support.
- Assist the Committee on Ministry, the Committee on Preparation
for the Ministry and the Board of Trustees.
- Oversee the task groups appointed by Presbytery Council.
Serve as FISCAL OVERSEER
- Provide administrative support for formation of the Presbytery
Budget.
- Provide oversight of all expenditures.
Serve as SUPERVISOR
- Supervise the Director of Camping Ministry.
- Supervise Mission Center staff.
Serve as SUPPORT FOR PROGRAM
- Support the Teaching Presbyter in the work of the Presbytery.
- Work as a colleague with the Teaching Presbyter.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minister of Word and Sacrament or an Elder.
- Member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) within the bounds
of Lehigh Presbytery.
- Working knowledge of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and its
polity.
- Working knowledge of Roberts Rules of Order, Newly Revised.
- Ability to delegate responsibilities to appropriate persons.
- Capable of managing one's own time and docket time at the
Presbytery and Presbytery Council.
- Computer skills to perform necessary responsibilities, foster
communications and technological capability of the Presbytery
office.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to relate, with a positive attitude, to a variety of
persons.
- Ability to maintain confidential material and information.
- Experienced or trained in managing budgets.
- Experienced or trained in administering programs
