Presbytery News

  • Take and Read!  You are invited to join fellow Lehigh Presbyterians in reading and discussing Eugene Peterson’s Christ Plays in Ten Thousand Places. We will be meeting at Faith United Presbyterian Church in Pen Argyl on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 from 1-3pm. Because this will be the first of several such gatherings, we will only be discussing through page 129; we’ll plan the next meeting while we are together. While “reservations” aren’t needed, it would be nice to know if you plan to join us—please contact the Presbytery office at 610/391-9020 or office@lehighpresbytery.org .

  • ANNUAL READING OF THE SESSION MINUTES
The churches in Lehigh Presbytery will have their Session Minutes reviewed on
    Saturday, May 10, 2008 beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Room #115 of the First Presbyterian Church, 3231 Tilghman Street, Allentown.

    The clerks should bring their
minute book and church registers.  It is important that each congregation be represented, so if it is not possible for the clerk to attend, then we ask you to send your minutes and register with an Elder who would be prepared to join in the reading.  Please call (610-391-9020) or email (office@lehighpresbytery.org) the Presbytery office with any questions.

  • MISSION CHALLENGE 2008 - Support God's mission to the world through Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) missionaries.  For $1 per day or $365 per year you can share the gospel, provide medical care, teach better farming, educate children and adults skills, and much more.  A challenge has gone out to the Lehigh Presbytery churches ---

Can 1% of the Lehigh Presbytery support Presbyterian mission at $1 per day?
Can 10% of the Lehigh Presbytery support Presbyterian mission at $365 per year?

Mission Challenge '08 gives you the opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ, feed the hungry and clothe the naked, help the blind see and deaf hear throughout the world.

In 2007, Lehigh Presbytery had 10,884 members.  It costs approximately $55,000 to support one missionary for a year.
If 1% (108 members) each contributed $365, that would mean $39,420, nearly the cost to support one missionary.
If 10% (1,088 members) each contributed $365, that would mean $397,120, enough to fully support SEVEN missionaries!

As you can see $1 per day CAN make a huge difference!  Even if you cannot give $1 a day, any amount can add up and make a difference.  Won't you join us and pledge by filling out the
Mission Challenge Form and returning it to the Lehigh Presbytery.

    Thank you for your support.

  • BARNABAS INITIATIVE -- Conflict happens, even in the church. The Lehigh Presbytery's Committee on Ministry has recently sent a team to Conflict Management Training. The outcome of this was the formation of the Lehigh Presbytery "Barnabas Initiative". They learned a variety of tools that can help congregations and pastors manage conflict in more constructive ways. If the Barnabas Initiative sounds like something you or your congregation needs, contact the Rev. Karen Nickels, Committee on Ministry chair.

  • The Committee on Representation (COR) seeks to help the Presbyterian Church (USA) to be more welcoming of people of various ages, backgrounds, races, abilities, etc. Toward that end, if you know of anyone (especially youth, young adults, and/or others of diverse racial ethnic backgrounds) who would be willing to offer their time and talents in service to the wider church through the presbytery or synod (for example, as an elder, commissioner, representative, or a member of a committee/task group), please pass their name(s) and contact info to the Rev. R.C. Smith, chair of the Nominating committee.
