YOUNG ADULT MISSION TRIP

Lehigh Presbytery's Worldwide Ministries Committee is planning a young adult mission trip to Romania for July 2010, as part of the Presbytery's ongoing partnership with the Hungarian Reformed Church in Romania. This trip will introduce young adults to church-to-church partnerships and partnership-based mission experiences. While in Romania, participants will work with a YMCA Camp, providing English learning experiences.

Participants are expected to participate in a pre-trip gathering, letter based fund raising, and post-trip group presentation. Participants should be between the ages of 19 and 30. Due to in-country travel accommodations, this trip will be limited to 4 participants. Trip costs are yet to be determined, but is anticipated that a majority of the trip costs will be off-set by grants and sponsorships. A $200 trip deposit is due upon selection to participate. Please contact Kim Ward, trip leader, for more information regarding trip costs.

Please contact Kim Ward with any questions and for an application. Applications are also available on the Lehigh Presbytery website: www.lehighpresbytery.org

APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY JANUARY 30, 2010.

Light Dawning Fund
Mission Challenge 2009

In 2009, the Presbytery is offering a new name and a new way to contribute and its tied to our own history.

Missionary David Brainerd was only 29 years old when he died. According to    Ed Reese in his Christian Hall of Fame series, "in truth David Brainerd's life sacrifice reached out and touched the whole world, challenging more people   into Christian Service than perhaps any other may that ever lived." It was on
July 12, 1739, that David Brainerd's particular vocation as a missionary clearly emerged. According to Reese, "God spoke to him as light dawning, and he had a glorious salvation experience." (www.wholesomewords.org/biography/biorpbrainerd.html)

It is in honor of this day, Lehigh Presbytery's commitment to support Presbyterian missionaries is now the
Light Dawning Fund.

BARNABAS INITIATIVE -- Conflict happens, even in the church. The Lehigh Presbytery's Committee on Ministry has recently sent a team to Conflict Management Training. The outcome of this was the formation of the Lehigh Presbytery "Barnabas Initiative". They learned a variety of tools that can help congregations and pastors manage conflict in more constructive ways. If the Barnabas Initiative sounds like something you or your congregation needs, contact the Rev. Karen Nickels, Committee on Ministry chair.

The Committee on Representation (COR) seeks to help the Presbyterian Church (USA) to be more welcoming of people of various ages, backgrounds, races, abilities, etc. Toward that end, if you know of anyone (especially youth, young adults, and/or others of diverse racial ethnic backgrounds) who would be willing to offer their time and talents in service to the wider church through the presbytery or synod (for example, as an elder, commissioner, representative, or a member of a committee/task group), please pass their name(s) and contact info to Martha Cox, chair of the Nominating committee.
